Warcraft Movie Update: Arthas Is Out, Robert Rodat Is In
Despite many rumors that Arthas would be the hero of the upcoming Warcraft movie, Sam Raimi sets the record straight. (we talked about those rumors here)
In an interview with MTV News, Raimi announced that Saving Private Ryan writer Robert Rodat would be penning the script, thus ending the speculation that the movie was going to be an adaptation of the book, Rise of the Lich King. Raimi emphasized that although this movie would be based on the very popular video game, it would indeed be an original effort, focusing on adapting the actual game rather than a previously conceived concept.
When speaking about his vision for the WoW movie, Raimi said this: "We want to be really faithful to the game," Raimi said. "We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture."
So it looks like we still don't know what the story will be about, or which part of the lore the movie will focus on, or who will be the hero. Sorry Arthas.
What do you think of Robert Rodat as the writer for the Warcraft movie?
