Ever since it was announced that Sam Raimi would be the director of the new World of Warcraft movie, things have gotten pretty quiet despite a number of questions from the fans. In fact, when the announcement was made, one of the biggest questions among the fans of WoW was, "Which part of the lore will this movie be based on?"

To those familiar with the game and the story behind it, this was a pretty important question because the lore is, without exaggeration, huge. It spans quite a number of books and three Warcraft games.

Well, it seems that a notable change has occurred on IMDB that might have answered this question, and it's causing quite the stir in the WoW community. Until now, the World of Warcraft film has been using the working title Warcraft, however yesterday the title was changed to Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King. It is noteworthy to point out that even though this change has happened on IMDB, nothing official has been said either by Blizzard or Legendary Pictures. If confirmed to be true, it looks as if Arthas will be the focus of the WoW film.

Arthas is an important character in the Warcraft lore and the focus of Blizzard's most recent expansion in the World of Warcraft, Wrath of the Lich King. Arthas originally started out as Arthas Menethil, crowned prince of Lordaeron and Knight of the Silver Hand. He was trained in the values of goodness and valor all paladins are taught to uphold. However, seduced by a lust for vengeance and corrupted by a cursed sword Arthas became The Lich King, one of the most powerful and evil beings the world of Azeroth had ever seen.

Some have speculated that the film will be based on the novel Arthas: Rise of the Lich King by Christine Golden, but again, nothing has been said by the author, Blizzard, or Legendary Pictures on this so we'll have to wait and see for more information. I'll keep my eye out for more details on this one.
