Malkovich Will Saddle Up For 'Secretariat'
Originally my headline involved the words "riding, Secretariat and John Malkovich", but I was afraid that might reflect some kind of twisted romantic involvement.
Malkvoich is set to star as horse jockey turned trainer, Lucien Laurin in the Disney based movie Secretariat, about the 1973 triple crown winning racehorse. The film will center on the relationship between the horse and his owner, Penny Chenery.
Chenery, who will be played by Diane Lane, was a housewife who knew almost nothing about horse racing when she took over her dying father's Virginia horse farm. Yet, despite her lack of knowledge she later became known as "the first-lady of racing".
Mich Rich whose previous works include Radio, The Rookie and Finding Forrester will be writing the script, while Randall Wallace of We Were Soldiers and The Man In The Iron Mask will be directing.
