Gavin Hood Is Interested In Directing Magneto

While the Magneto movie is still being put together, it seems that Gavin Hood has mentioned he'd like his name put into the mix for the list of possible directors.

Hood, who recently directed the letdown X-Men Origins: Wolverine, recently sat down with MTV's Splash Page and spoke briefly about Magneto and his interest for the film: "I think the character of Magneto is still a phenomenally interesting character," Hood told MTV News while discussing the release of Wolverine on DVD and Blue-Ray. "Absolutely, if I was asked I’d take an interest," the director said. "But the truth is I haven’t been asked and I think that the studio right now is waiting to see how we do with the ["X-Men Origins: Wolverine"] DVDs..."

Personally, I hope Hood stays unasked. While the current popular frontrunner for the Magneto directing chair seems to be The Dark Knight writer David Goyer, it is very possible Hood will step in if Goyer finds himself otherwise committed.

I cannot tell you how much I disliked X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and to hear that Hood might take on a very complex character like Magneto is so very disheartening. The origin of Wolverine seemed like an impossible story to mess up, but Hood did it so completely, even the character Wolverine became uninteresting. I believe if Hood is allowed anywhere near the Magneto project it would be one of the hugest mistakes ever.

Seriously. Hugest. Mistake. Ever.

What do you think of Gavin Hood possibly directing the Magneto film?
