Funnyman Seth Rogen Thinks Entourage Remarks Are 'Not Funny'
Usually I don't talk about television related topics here, but since Entourage is on HBO and involves tons of star cameos it's almost like talking about film anyway. So here's a bit of back story.
For those of you who haven't seen it, Entourage follows Vincent Chase, played by Adrian Grenier, as he and his four friends from New York move to Los Angeles. While all of them achieve a moderate amount of success, Chase, makes it big in Hollywood and the comedy series follows the group in various celebrity "high life" escapades.
This past episode on Entourage there were jokes told about Funny People star, Seth Rogen. One of the characters in the group called "Turtle" called into question the plausibility of Katherine Heigl sleeping with Rogen in the movie Knocked Up. In the episode Turtle was somewhat captivated by Knocked Up saying that Rogen's, "ugliness" was "oddly fascinating" and asked several other female characters if they would "bang him" if they'd ever meet him. I've watched this particular Entourage episode and yes, they were jokes about him, but really they were all done in a kidding atmosphere where no one really took Turtle seriously anyway. Nothing out of line was said.
Rogen however, did not think the jokes were funny. In some statements made to E! online Rogen had this to say: “Yeah, those ['Entourage'] guys are a--holes. I actually ran into Matt… Kevin Dillon in a Starbucks. And he’s like ‘you know, I’ve got to kind of apologize because apparently the guy who created our show doesn’t like you so much.’ And I said ‘well I have reason to believe because I think [showrunner] Doug Ellin is a moron from all I can understand so it makes sense he doesn’t like me.’ And I’ve kind of said some disparaging things about the show. Although in our defense, [producer] Mark Wahlberg called us misogynistic in an interview, so I think they kind of started that… it’s on. Luckily I never have and never plan on watching 'Entourage.'”
Now I like Rogen's past works, I think he's a talented actor and comedian. However, I have to say I think this is a bit surprising coming from Rogen, simply because in a lot of his past works, he himself is known to crack jokes at other people's expense. So why should he get upset if it's done to him? In fact, as part of a being recognized as a comedic actor, aren't you somewhat known for your jokes? Some of which are about other people??
MTV Movies Blog also posted this video where it shows Rogen at the Funny People premier talking about making jibes about other people. After watching it, I'm inclined to agree with Adam Rosenberg who wasn't joking when he called Rogen a, "poor sport".
See for yourselves and let me know what you guys think.
