James McTeigue To Direct Edgar Allen Poe Project
To say that, Edgar Allen Poe is a very well known writer would be a huge understatement. His stories and poems are internationally known and loved.
What isn't too well known, or known at all really, is the cause of his death. At the age of 40, Poe was found delirious and bleeding in the streets of Baltimore. He was taken to a hospital where he died shortly after, saying only the name "Reynolds" repeatedly. No one knows anything more than that.
Enter James McTeigue and his next project. No, McTeigue doesn't know how Poe died either, but his next project is a fictionalized account of the mysterious last five days of Edgar Allen Poe's life. The period piece entitled, The Raven has Poe tracking down a serial killer whose murders are supposedly inspired by his stories. In an interview with Peter Sciretta over at /Film, McTeigue described his upcoming work as "The Raven meets Se7en", which sounds very interesting.
McTeigue's past works include being the first assistant director under the Wachowski Brothers for The Matrix films. He also directed the screenplay the Wachowski Brothers wrote for the much acclaimed V for Vendetta movie. The screenplay for The Raven will be written by Hannah Shakespeare, a story editor for The Bionic Woman and The Ghost Whisperer, and Ben Livingston.
Personally I really like Poe's works, and I'm still working on getting through all of them. Out of the ones I've read so far, I'd have to say that the short story called, The Cask of Amontillado is my favorite right now.
