The Green Hornet Movie Gets A Kato
After laying a broad casting net for any Asian with martial arts experience for the role of Kato, it seems Michael Gondry has caught a big fish. Or at least a famous one...kinda.
Jay Chou has been officially chosen by Gondry to replace Stephen Chow as Kato in the upcoming Green Hornet movie. Chow was set to both direct and co-star in the movie with Seth Rogen, however he stepped down as the director then stepped away from The Green Hornet project completely last month. He simply had too many other projects that were more important to him.
Although Chou may not be a familiar name here in the states yet, he has achieved quite a measure of success already as an accomplished musician in Asia. He has recently started to branch out into acting and so far has landed some significant roles including a major role in Yimou Zang's, Curse Of The Golden Flower .
In a press release about his choice for the famous sidekick Goundry had this to say: "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie would be great."
I don't know, I'm still on the fence about this movie. I've mentioned before that I have a lot of respect for Seth Rogen, but I'm just not exactly thrilled he's The Green Hornet. What do you think of the casting for Kato or for the movie in general?
