The Final Destination Kills Off Halloween II
This weekend was set to be a horror film showdown as the second installment of Rob Zombie's re-imagined Halloween, faced off against the fourth installment of a 3D Final Destination. Emerging as this weekend's head-to-head horror film match-up champion, it is The Final Destination who claims the prize.
Selling $28.3 million worth of tickets in its first three days, The Final Destination bested the latest chapter of Halloween, which took in $17.4 million, finishing a somewhat distant third at the box office. This opening amount marks a huge boost from the 2006 release of Final Destination 3, which opened to $19 million. Many believe this year's Final Destination numbers were boosted by higher ticket sales for its 3D version shown in just over half of its 3,121 theaters runs.
According to THR, finishing in second was last week's champion, Quentin Tarantino's WWII film Inglourious Basterds, which took in $20 million.
