SNL MacGruber Skit To Become Full Length Movie
/Film is reporting that Jorma Taccone will direct a full length feature of the popular SNL skit, MacGrubber. Some familiar names that are in talks to star in this project are Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer.
If signed, Phillippe and Kilmer would join the cast of William Forte and Kristin Wiig, both of whom were originally in the SNL MacGyver spoofs.
MacGrubber was a series of skits on SNL that portrayed MacGyver's son (Forte) as stuck in a room with a panicky assistant (Wiig) and a bomb set to explode. Every week MacGrubber got distracted with some personal issues with his father or with the guest star and the bomb would explode.
The film's version would be a bit different: "The legendary, much decorated MacGruber is pulled out of retirement as a monk in Ecuador by a colonel, who needs him once more to fight on behalf of his country. This time the mission involves going up against the evil Cunth, who has a nuclear warhead; the mission is personal because Cunth killed MacGruber’s bride."
Taccone could be last seen in the comedy Land of the Lost as Chaka. He is also part of the comedy trio The Lonely Island, along with longtime friends Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, who released an album earlier this year.
This announcement makes me curious actually, since a an actual MacGyver remake was announced a few months ago, I wonder how that is going to play out.
