The 25-year old Australian actor, who got his start on a popular Australian TV series, Home and Away has signed on to play the Marvel action hero, Thor.

Kenneth Branagh has, according to Variety, picked Chris Hemsworth whose most recent role was in J.J. Abrams' remake of Star Trek as George Kirk, to play the title role in his upcoming adaptation of the comic book hero. He has also signed on to play Thor in the much awaited 2012 collaborative Marvel action movie, The Avengers.

Hensworth's next project has him taking over the lead role as Patrick Swayze's character, Jed Eckert, in MGM's remake of Red Dawn.
