Oscar-winning actor, Russell Crowe is in final talks to star in Paul Haggis' latest film, The Next Three Days.

For this project Haggis will be once again teaming up with Lionsgate. The last time of course the two collaborated was for the 2004 film, Crash which won three Oscars. The Next Three Days will be a remake of the 2008 French thriller, Pour Elle. The story centers on a couple whose life is thrown into upheaval when the wife is arrested and convicted of a murder she says she did not commit.

Crowe will play the husband who is a teacher and desperately tries to devise a plan for her to escape prison. When speaking about the actor they were looking for to Variety Daily Haggis mentioned they needed an "Everyman who rises when faced with an extraordinary circumstance.", so Crowe was his top choice.

Haggis also spoke a bit about what the film intends to explore and the themes that will be developed. Haggis explained, "The deeper theme here is, would you save the woman you love if you knew that by doing so, you would turn into a man that woman could no longer love?"

I haven't seen the French film, but I am very interested in Haggis returning back to write and direct.
