Hugh Jackman Takes A Swing At Real Steel

Based on a short story by Richard Matheson, Real Steel is a futuristic story based around robotic boxing that seems to have Hugh Jackman very interested.

The Shawn Levy directed film is based around the story of a fighter who has to re-invent himself when human boxers are replaced by robots. Variety gives us the details: "Jackman is negotiating to play the ex-fighter, who becomes a struggling Robot Boxing promoter and finds a discarded robot that always seems to win. He also discovers he has a 13-year-old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top."

Some have compared this to a robotic Rocky type of movie or worse, The Rock'em Sock'em Robots movie. And I say it's worse because I didn't even know there was a movie about Rock'em Sock'em Robots.

For me though, I'm pretty interested in seeing how this sci-fi element plays out in the world of boxing.

As a side note, Richard Matheson also wrote the 1971 directorial debut film, Duel for Steven Spielberg, who also happens to be one of the executive producers for this project.

What do you think of Hugh Jackman being involved in Real Steel?
