Jack Ryan is one of my favorite characters ever created, and believe it or not, I liked Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan in The Hunt For Red October. My favorite movie with the famous Tom Clancy character is Patriot Games, I think Harrison Ford was incredible as Jack Ryan and Sean Bean was awesome. For me though, the last two movies about Jack Ryan kind of sputtered out and died before they ever really got going, and the character looked like it would be forgotten.

Enter Chris Pine. According to Variety, Chris Pine has just signed on with Paramount to star as Jack Ryan in a reboot of the franchise. Pine had been in negotiations with the studio and it was confirmed in a statement from Paramount late yesterday. In the statement, Paramount Film Group President Adam Goodman said: "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."

This is Pine's second film franchise his is involved in, as he also starred in JJ Abram's summer hit, Star Trek as Capt. James T. Kirk. Pine will also play Kirk in the Star Trek sequel however it is unclear whether he will do so before or after taking on the role as Jack Ryan. Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, who previously co-wrote the script for The Four Feathers, based on an original concept.

I am really excited that Jack Ryan is getting a reboot, and I'm even more excited that the movie will be an original concept and not a remake of say, Hunt For Red October or Patriot Games.
