Paul W.S. Anderson Brings Us Three Musketeers In 3D
From Paul W.S. Anderson, who previously brought you the Resident Evil and Alien vs. Predator movies, comes the classic story of The Three Musketeers in 3D.
The 1844 Alexandre Dumas french novel gives us the story of D'Artagnan who leaves home to pursue his dream of becoming a Musketeer, the fighting force of the French royal household. Along the way, he befriends the Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—inseparable friends who live by the motto "all for one, one for all".
Anderson wrote the script with Andrew Davies, whose past works include the films “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “The Tailor of Panama”. Producing with Anderson are Impact Pictures partner Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film. Constantin, with whom Impact has a joint venture, will finance the production.
So what kind of Three Musketeers can people expect from a filmmaker who goes from futuristic sci-fi movies to a 1800s period piece? Heat Vision gave us this from Anderson: “We are definitely modernizing ‘The Three Musketeers’ without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece. But in our film, corsets and feathered hats don’t take center stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure.”
Anderson, who hopes to shoot in France and Germany, will start production next year with a 2011 release date in mind.
I'm not entirely excited by this project for a couple of reasons, the first being that the last Musketeer movie in 2001 was so long and boring it really made me not want to see another one...ever. Yes it had cool effects, but not enough to warrant me sitting through the rest of the movie. The second factor being that I'm not a huge fan of Anderson's work with the exception of the first Resident Evil movie.
What do you think of Anderson making a 3D version of The Three Musketeers?
