Fox To Reboot Fantastic Four
Even though the Fantastic Four films earned about $500 million domestically, there was a growing sense of disappointment by the fan base. I mean sure, the first one was fun, but the second movie was unanimously thought of as a huge let down by both audiences and fanboys alike. Hmm, so what's Fox do when they have a hugely successful franchise, like Fantastic Four, but a growing dislike of its movies from the fans? What every other studio does of course. Reboot it.
But there are a couple problems. Yes, a reboot worked for The Incredible Hulk and Batman, but so far there have been several concerns raised regarding this particular revamp. The first few being that the producer and writer who've been hired have the fanboys a bit nervous.
Despite Akiva Goldsman having won an Oscar in 2002 for writing the screenplay for A Beautiful Mind, as a producer it is thought that he has more misses than hits. Hancock, Mindhunters, Poseidon, Lost in Space and Deep Blue Sea to name a few.
Micheal Green, who has been hired as the writer is also the subject to a bit of mistrust by some of the fans. Although Green’s background includes writing for NBC's Heroes and creating the first draft for upcoming Green Lantern film, it doesn't include a lot in the feature film area.
Another side note I have seen brought up is the way the media is being handled. Several months ago it was said that another Fantastic Four project was in the works, so why all of a sudden the media hype around a Marvel franchise so soon after Disney was making headlines for buying Marvel? Some have called it a bid to grab the attention away from Disney or stand just a bit in their spotlight anyway. Oh Fox, you attention whore you.
Personally, I don't think Fox is trying to show off the fact that, they too, have a bit of Marvel, and I actually agree this reboot might be good for the franchise. The only concern I have is with such a short time since the last Fantastic Four movie, do we really care it's going to get a reboot? What do you think?
