Washington Drops Out of Unstoppable
Unfortunately, it seems like Denzel Washington's newest project, Unstoppable has been very much stopped, or at least stalled. Washington was set to co-star with revamped Star Trek actor, Chris Pine in a movie about a runaway train filled with bio toxic chemicals, speeding towards a small town. The Tony Scott film was to have Washington as an engineer and Pine as a young conductor doing whatever they could to stop the tragedy from happening.
However, in what many people consider both a fallout from director Tony Scott's and Washington's last collaboration failure, The Taking of Phalum 1-2-3, and a sign of the economic times, Fox put a halt on the movie citing budget reassessment issues.
The film had been faltering for some time now due the budget cuts the studio wanted to impose. Originally the project was said to have a $107 million dollar budget, which Fox first wanted reduced to $100 million. Then Fox wanted it cut again to somewhere in the $90 million dollar range. The proposed cuts included a request for Washington to shave $4 million off his normal $20 million asking price, and director Scott to take a $3 million dollar cut as well. Washington declined the offer.
Now according to Variety, after waiting for 3 months for a set budget and shoot date, the actor has reportedly walked away from the project. However, all hope is not entirely lost just yet. Supposedly the studio returned to Washington with a new offer which includes a revised script in hopes he'll reconsider staying with the film.
