Today, in a Marvel press release, it was announced that Natalie Portman has joined the cast of Thor to play opposite Chris Hemsworth. Portman will star as Jane Foster, a nurse who tends to Donald Blake, Thor's human alter ego. Tom Hiddleston was announced earlier to play the part of Loki.

I'm actually really interested in this development. Not just because of Portman, who I think is a great addition, but because I think this bit of info gives us a bit of insight on the film itself.

Originally most people thought this film would have very little to do with Earth, and take place more in Thor's native land, Asgaurd. However with the introduction of a love interest to his human alter ego that may not be the case. I mean he'd need time to develop a relationship with a woman, unless of course he's some sort of god....oh wait.....

Anyway, here's what Marvel had to say about the story in their press release: "Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of super hero: "Thor." This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth."

So what do you guys think of Portman's addition to the film and how do you think they'll incorporate Asgaurd and Earth in the movie?
