Jack Sparrow To Return Again For Pirates 4?
I loved the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series, I thought it was a great set of movies. I'll admit, I did like the first one the most out of all of them. For me, by the time the third one rolled around I felt somewhat "oooh'd and ahhh'd" by the overall hugeness of the movie, but not the movie itself. Not that I would classify it as bad, just "not great".
One of the memorable points in the last POTC movie was that it left the door wide open for another installment, and by the sound of an interview with Disney's Head of Production, Oren Aviv we just might be getting that installment soon. Comingsoon.net quotes him as saying: "We're going to shoot 'Pirates 4' in April or May of next year," Aviv told us during our interview. "We are going to release it hopefully in 2011 is the plan."
When asked about whether they would be doing another trilogy Aviv answered that they would only be doing this one movie, but "hopefully" it would be the first of another trilogy. Aviv also noted that for this project one of his goals is to scale it down, "The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters."
The whole, "scaling down" thing is good to hear, for me at least, but that quote also makes me wonder about things quite a bit with this movie. Generally speaking, when someone speaks of a "reboot" that is taken to mean some kind of new spin on the movie. Either by a new take on the story or new take on the actors or a new take on the direction of where the movie or franchise is going.
So although we have news on an upcoming Pirates movie, I'm wondering if it's going to include the cast members from the first trilogy, particularly Johnny Deep as Jack Sparrow.
What do you guys think of another Pirates Movie?
