Colombia Pictures Find a 'Fortune'

'Uncharted: Drake's Fortune' is the next video game that has been picked up for the big screen. The adventure game was picked up by Columbia pictures and will have Kyle Ward as the writer.

Interestingly enough, Ward was also announced as the writer behind the Hitman sequel Fox announced earlier this week.

I scanned a few gaming blogs to see the general reaction to this and found a surprising mixture of resigned disappointment and hope.

The disappointment comes from the belief that this will be just another game that movie developers screw up. Big game names that were adapted for Hollywood such as, Hitman and the much anticipated Max Payne, were huge letdowns for fans. So the news that 'Uncharted' will be the next game to travel to the big screen was received with much trepidation.

On the bright side however, with the trepidation comes a small glimmer of hope that this movie will kick some major ass. An interesting point that kept resurfacing was that this game seemed more "geared" for Hollywood, while some of the other games that have failed miserably on screen were not.

I don't know if I agree with that point or not yet, I'm still mulling it over. The idea that a game's genre will effect it's adaptability into a movie? What do you guys think? For now, I'll be keeping an eye on this and the Hitman2 movie, especially since I'm still recovering from that Max Payne failure. (God, that movie sucked)
